Architect-Designed Home with Spectacular Views in Maridalen

Welcome to a unique and modern home in the beautiful Maridalen valley just outside Oslo. Built in 2020, this architect-designed house was created and constructed by the architect who lives here with his wife and their four children. The home reflects thoughtful design, quality craftsmanship, and a deep connection to the surrounding landscape.

Perched on a cliff, the house enjoys a stunning south-west facing view across the valley, with long sightlines toward Tryvann and Holmenkollen. Large glass facades bring the landscape into the living spaces and allow you to experience the changing light and seasons throughout the day.
The house is spacious and practical, all on one level, with high-quality materials and a calm, modern atmosphere. The open layout and generous windows create bright, comfortable living areas ideal for relaxing and enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

The property is surrounded by untouched nature. Nearby Movann offers excellent swimming opportunities in the summer, and the area is well known for its beautiful hiking trails and outdoor experiences year-round. Whether you enjoy walking, swimming, or simply taking in the view, Maridalen offers a rare combination of tranquility and easy access to nature—while still being within reach of Oslo.

This is a special place for anyone looking to stay in a modern, architect-designed home in one of the most scenic natural areas around the city.

About the neighborhood

Sørbråten is a small and peaceful hillside area in Maridalen, just north of Oslo. The neighborhood is known for its quiet atmosphere, beautiful landscape, and close connection to nature. Houses are scattered along the hillside, surrounded by forest, open fields, and dramatic views across the valley.

Despite feeling remote and tranquil, Sørbråten is only a short drive from central Oslo. The area offers a rare balance between countryside living and access to the city.

The landscape around Sørbråten is part of the protected Maridalen valley, one of Oslo’s most scenic natural areas. From the hillside you can look out across the valley toward landmarks such as Tryvann and Holmenkollen, with wide skies and beautiful sunsets over the forested hills.

Outdoor life is an important part of the area. There are excellent hiking and cycling routes directly from the neighborhood, and in winter the forests around Maridalen connect to Oslo’s extensive cross-country ski trails.

Nearby Movann is a favorite spot for swimming in the summer, with clear water and peaceful surroundings.
Sørbråten is a place where nature, silence, and space are still very present. The atmosphere is calm and unpretentious, and many people who live here value the opportunity to live close to the landscape while remaining within easy reach of the city.

Pleasant and curious Family

An active family with great curiosity and even bigger heart.

When I was a child, my family exchanged homes through Intervac, and those experiences left a lasting impression on me. I remember the excitement of traveling to new places and, instead of staying in a hotel, living for a while in someone else’s home—seeing how other families lived, exploring new neighborhoods, and feeling part of everyday life in a different country.

Those trips became some of my most memorable childhood experiences. They were not only about travel, but about curiosity, trust, and discovering the world in a more personal way.

Now that I have a family of my own, with four children growing up quickly, I would love for them to experience something similar. Home exchange feels like a wonderful way to travel more slowly and authentically, and to let our children see new places while living as locals rather than tourists.

Opening our home to another family also feels natural to us. Our house was designed to be lived in and enjoyed, and we hope that others might experience the same sense of calm, nature, and space that we appreciate here every day.

For us, this is not only about traveling, but about continuing a tradition that once meant a great deal to me—and hopefully creating new memories for our own children along the way.
