Enjoy the medieval city Rapperswil: a pearl at the lake of Zürich! Switzerland
We live in the medieval town of Rapperswil, directly at the lake promenade, and we enjoy a tremendous view over the lake of Zürich and into the Alps. The spacious flat (110m2) is situated on the 1st floor in a historic old house and has a large balcony terrace with wine grapes. On the 2nd floor there are two other flats with very friendly neighbours, and on the ground floor there is a restaurant called "Steinbock" with Austrian specialities. So, if you don't feel like cooking, just go downstairs and enjoy lovely food! The lake promenade offers many other delicious restaurants, so you have the agony of choice. In the "Marktgasse" you find many charming little shops like book-shop, antiques, jeweler, fashion boutique etc. The town of Rapperswil (29'000 inhabitants) is a pearl along the lake of Zürich with its castle from the 13 th century, the old church, the Town Hall square surrounded by its historic buildings and the famous rose gardens, which gave Rapperswil the nickname of "Rosenstadt".
Come and enjoy!

Neighborhood
About the neighborhood
Many activities are organized by the town like Friday-market, cheese-festival, sport-events, music festivals etc. etc. The visitor centre nearby (2 min. by foot) helps you in planning the numerous activities you can do. Here some example for the summer: swimming in the lake (Stadtbad), SUP (we have 2 private boards), renting pedalos or motorboats, fishing, walking, hiking, biking, etc. etc. In even less than 1 hours distance by train you have the beautiful cities of Lucern, St. Gallen or Zürich, which is the biggest city in Switzerland (1/2 million ) with many cultural and historical attractions, night life, shopping: world wide famous "Bahnhofstrasse", sightseeings, lake and river etc. The train station in Rapperswil is in a walking distance of 5 min. and brings you with very good connections to all the places you like to see. For example if you like to go to the mountain to do hiking in the Alpes it takes you only between 30 to 90 min. by car or train, depending on the destination you choose.
If you arrive with your car, there is in 500m distance a public car parking space. (Due to the very little space in the historic town, there aren't any parkings.)

My name is Judith and I work as a lecturer at the university of teacher education in Zürich as well as in the National Museum of Switzerland, called "Landesmuseum", as a guide for schools and private groups. My partner Hannes worked also at the university of teacher education in Zürich and is now retired. My three children are grown up and don't live anymore at home. When they were young we did several home-exchanges in different countries and enjoyed it very much.
