Neighborhood
About the neighborhood
We live only a five minute walk from the stately Museum Square and the lively Albert Cuyp Market. It is very easy to get to by public transport. Central station is a 10 minute tram ride or a 7 minute metro ride (opened July 23,2018).
The city center is within walking distance.
The nearest supermarkets are only 3 minutes away, but our favourite shop is the organic shop. The area is really known as the "Quartier Latin" of Amsterdam, with its many cafes and restaurants. There are many little trendy shops as well.
There is an very beautiful historic indoor swimming pool, open to public, called het Zuiderbad...worth a try.
Nearest Airport: Schiphol Airport

The house is an original from the 1870s and so you feel instantly like a local resident when you enter Annelets and Marcels home. The area is supernice, with lots of cafés, restaurants and shops — but without the touristy insanity of the inner boroughs of Amsterdam. We strolled through the streets or discovered the city by bike, went to museums (many are nearby) and enjoyed the little neighbourhood park a lot. We recommend a home exchange to Amsterdam and with Annelet and Marcel!

I remember doing Intervac house exchanges with my parents when I was a teenager. I really enjoyed the stay in residential houses in Rome and Paris, making me feel as if I was one of the locals, rather than a tourist.
We love reading, traveling, hiking and Amsterdam. We lived in Australia for half a year, like a sabbatical, but the kids attended the local school and learned to speak English real well.
After a while we started missing lively and vibrant Amsterdam. We live in the centre, within walking distance of the Rijks-, van Gogh and Stedelijk Museum. Around the corner is the Albert Cuyp market. Our area, de Pijp, is known for its numerous restaurants and cafes.
Annelet works as an English teacher in a bilingual school, Marcel has his own second hand bookshop around the corner. Both children have left the nest ( to study in Delft and Maastricht). They won't be travelling with us, but might want to visit us..
