About Our Family

Greg is a retired Engineer who has travelled to most continents during his career. The last one, prior to his retirement, being a 2 year assignment in Shanghai, China.
Elvira was a potter for 30 years but has retired from that. She now paints and does some sculpture work. She has her own studio.
Both of us have enjoyed house renovation over about the last 40 years and it is still happening in the house we offer for exchange.
We both enjoy travelling and have done 20 exchanges to date, 12 through Intervac and 8 through another house exchange website.

Lifestyle

"The Land of the Long White Clouds" as the indigenous Maori call it.
Settled by them as a result of a long canoe journey from Polynesia some centuries ago.
Whangarei has a relaxed urban environment without crowds.
Coffee shops and restaurants within walking distance.
Whangarei has a number of beaches close by and also has good bush walking tracks and, about 1 hrs drive away, bicycle tracks, some on old logging and defunct railway trails from coast to coast, see http://www.twincoastcycletrail.kiwi.nz/ and a review on www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11765297
