House south of BORDEAUX (+ house on the coast)

We live in a rural area, 3 kms away from Langon, in the middle of the vineyard, on a hill, and our house overlooks the hills on the other side of the Garonne River.
It is spacious.
Downstairs, there is a big open space with two different levels. It includes the hall, the dining room, the lounge, the kitchen, a double bedroom with en-suite and toilets. There is also a utility room for the laundry and the garage.
Upstairs, there are three double bedrooms, a TV room (with a big screen smart tV now), a bathroom and toilets.
The park is quite big (about an acre) and it gives onto the vineyard. We have a vegetable garden in which we mostly grow tomatoes.
There is an old wood shelter and an old well, too. At the back, there is a small chalet for the garden staff. We also have a semi-inground pool.

It takes 40 minutes to reach Bordeaux by car and only 25 minutes by train. It also takes 45 minutes to go to Merignac, Bordeaux's airport. We can swap our Renault Captur or our Renault Scenic which is perfect for up to 5 people.
Langon is a typical southern town. There are about 10,000 inhabitants. As it is a sub-prefecture, there are two hospitals, two cinemas (a multiplex and an art-house cinema), a bowling, two swimming pools, a big cultural centre, an ancient music academy, a lot of restaurants, wine bars as well as a lot of supermarkets and shops. In St Pierre, there is a golf course in the pine forest and there are a lot of vineyards.
There are many riding stables near Langon.

There are many places to visit around langon as well as in the Gironde Department. But there are also beautiful places to visit in Lot-et-Garonne and Dordogne which are two neighbouring departments.

My parents own a house by the beach, in Capbreton-Hossegor, not far from Biarritz, close to the Spanish border, and they can lend it for a week or a little more. It is very convenient to explore the Basque Country. But the resort is just great, too. You can swim in the ocean or in a big marine lake. The house is in the forest. It takes 5 minutes to go to the sea (you can borrow the bikes). It is perfect for up to 6 people. (There are 2 double bedrooms + 1 bathroom downstairs, an en-suite bedroom with a bathroom and a mezzanine with a double bed upstairs.). It is a semi detached house in a residential neighbourhood next to Hossegor golf. Its address is 4 place Paul Valéry, 40130 Capbreton. There are two bikes there. It is in the forest but it's very close to the lake and Hossegor golf and beaches.

Our Neighbourhood

Nearest Airport: Bordeaux-Mérignac - 45 minutes

St Pierre and Langon are very close to Sauternes (10 minutes), its wine châteaux and its famous restaurants. The places to visit around Langon are Roquetaillade Castle in Mazères, two medieval towns (Bazas and Saint Macaire), Verdelais and Malagar Estate which used to be François Mauriac's property and still belongs to the Mauriac Family/and château Malromé where Toulouse Lautrec's Mum used to live and where Toulouse is buried, Cazeneuve Castle (Le château de Cazeneuves), Arcachon, Le Bassin d'Arcachon and La dune du Pyla, Saint Emilion, a gorgeous medieval town very famous for its wines and restaurants, La Réole, another medieval village, La Brède and Montesquieux Castle, L'abbaye de la Sauve Majeur (a medieval place).
Bordeaux is a beautiful 18th century city. There are plenty of things to do there (walking along the Garonne river, shopping, eating out, visiting museums, attending concerts or going to the theatre).
Further away, you can visit Le Médoc and its wonderful châteaux (Châtau Margaux). It is really gorgeous, too.
Our region is very famous for its wine and its food.
In Langon, there is a market every Friday and Sunday morning in Langon and every Saturday in Bazas. You can buy excellent food and wine there. Farm producers have also opened a shop where they sell their products (vegetables, fruit, meat, eggs, fruit juice and cheese).

We enjoy reading, going out (cinema, theatre, concerts) and travelling. We have visited a lot of countries and we are used to swapping houses. We've made very good friends in the USA, Greece and Canada thanks to Intervac.
