We are looking for a 1 week stay in Sweden at least, and up to 3 weeks long (preferred). We hope to travel home in mid to later August. Our layover is in Iceland so we might consider a week there. Next year we are open to most European countries and it could work for us to host a number of families already this year (we do not live full-time at the place we're offering).
Vacation cottage with westerly views on Woman Lake
We have a small vacation cottage right in the exclusive heart of Minnesota's Lake country. This is a very expensive vacation area--the rental rate for a simple cottage like ours is 11,000 SEK (1200 USD) weekly, or 44,000 SEK for a month.
There are many attractive lake homes in the area and activities for families. Like golf, movies, fishing contests for the kids, shopping, Itaska State Park, Brainerd International Raceway, go-carts, biking, and more. Enjoy the westerly breeze off the Lake and spectacular Sunsets. The water is clear and the fishing and swimming very enjoyable. There is a beautiful public beach in Walker in the city park.
This cottage was build by a teacher in the 70's. He and his wife lived in Rochester and it's said that she was inspired by the planetarium there. This was a period when Frank Loyd Wright had a lot of influence. The basement is fully renovated and we've chosen to leave the rough-sawn wood paneling in place as that also reflects the period. And as the pictures reflect, we are changing the exterior to "Småland" inspiration.
We may also be able to provide a different house near Minneapolis for those who would like a big-city experience in the USA, where there are zoos, museums, theme park Valleyfair, Mall of America, and more. Let us know if you'd also like the city experience and we will check whether that can work (my sister would have to schedule a vacation at our cottage).
Enjoy an authentic Minnesota experience on one of the State's very best Lakes!

Our cottage is in Minnesota Lake country where many people are retired. So it is quiet, although the lake has some activity such as boaters, sailboats, kids getting pulled behind boats, and so on. We enjoy watching the activity, which is not so much as to be too much. There are towns about 15 minute drive with groceries, movies, and shops. And there are larger shopping centers within about 1 hour.
There is a greater opportunity in the region depending on how long one drives for a day trip. Of note, the Alexandria rune-stone is an interesting artifact that seems to be gaining in credibility as an actual rune-stone from viking times. If you're a Swede, it may not be interesting to see another rune-stone--except that it was found 6,800 km from Stockholm! This stone is found about a two hour drive from our cottage.
The North Shore is another favorite destination. The Split Rock lighthouse is an iconic Minnesota Landmark. Lake Superior Railroad Museum--just over a two hour drive--is also very popular. These would be nice destinations while en route to the airport. It would to stay for a stay for a night in Duluth. We recommend the Beacon Point Resort. Duluth is a beautiful area and it is interesting to vision viking ships on the great lake. It is generally accepted that the Vikings were in Minnesota and in other North American locations.
