Flat in Toronto, Canada
Greetings fellow intervac members!
I am a well traveled professional (teacher) who lives in the heart of the city of Toronto with proximity to everything (see google maps)
Location: I live in the well established 'Davisville' neighbourhood centrally located along the Yonge subway line (a major metro artery) 5 mins walk, or a bus stop right outside my building :-) My neighbourhood is full of quaint shops, boulangeries, patisseries, restaurants, movie theatres and many other amenities (grocery, banks, etc.). There is a Farmer's Market Tuesdays 3-7pm 2mins away ( open May til Oct ) in June Rowland's Park; my backyard borders a beautiful 9km tree lined path (Kay Gardner Beltline: google Images) frequented by runners, cyclists, dog walkers and myself :-) It gives entrance to the Mt Pleasant Cemetery ( Toronto's Central Park ) which leads to a gorgeous stroll to the "DonValley Evergreen Brickworks" (Google: www.evergreen.ca!) There is also a plethora of children’s play parks, splash pads, etc near by should you have a wee one :-)
Downtown Toronto (Yonge &Bloor) is a 15 minute metro ride (TTC) and 'Union Station' ( train station ) is approximately 20 minutes by metro connecting to Metro Linx which takes you to 'Pearson International Airport'. Billy Bishop Airport (Toronto's Island Airport) is a 15 mins cab ride away (or take metro/bus). My neighbourhood is full of eating, entertainment and shopping options; however, major tourist attractions are approx 15-20 metro ride.
My flat & Building: My 1 bedroom flat is ideal for one or two adults. It is 'open concept' with a granite bar. The bedroom contains a queen size bed and there is a sofa bed in the living room that sleeps a 'double' ( so it is possible to have a 3rd person, even a 4th ). I also have an automatic inflatable twin size mattress if needed. Building amenities include: an indoor heated pool, jacuzzi, his and her saunas, an exercise/fitness room, a billiards room and 24 hour concierge/security.
Tourist Attractions & Proximity: Toronto is a city of 3 million and has many diverse experiences for tourists ranging from: art galleries, museums, theatre, nightlife, cafes & bars, varied dining experiences, shopping, live music scenes, a beach along Lake Ontario, multi-cultural neighbourhoods with open markets, art expos, etc.
Close by: Toronto is approximately 4 hours by car from our nation's capital city of "Ottawa" ( it is a beautiful drive ) which borders the French speaking province of Quebec. "Montreal" ( in the province of Quebec ) is 5 hours from Toronto by car ( or one hour from Ottawa ); another 3 hours east brings you to historic "Quebec City" along the St. Lawrence River. "Niagara Falls" (a must see) is 1 & 1/2 hours by car from Toronto ( a day trip to the vineyards and the falls) and is to be found in Ontario's wine region which borders the United States and the city of Buffalo ( also a day trip; there is an international airport here - it is small and flights to: Boston, New York, Chicago, etc. are cheaper than from Toronto. Of course all of these destinations are accessible too by bus, plane or train.
Wines: if you are interested in wine tasting, many vineyards can be found close to Toronto ( Prince Edward County - along Lake Ontario ) and Niagara ( along Lake Erie & Finger Lakes District ). Both areas are day trips by car, or better yet, overnights for more tastings!
I know you will enjoy your stay here in Toronto :-) !
