Welcome to the real capital of Ireland - Cork

Call it conceit but us Cork people have long since believed that Cork is The best city in Ireland. Dublin is indeed a fine city but if you're looking for a place which is easy to navigate, where the natives are welcoming and friendly and the vibe is laid back then Cork is the place to be. There is a good bus service from our home to the city centre. The bus stop is just a 1 minute walk from our house.

THINGS TO DO:

Cork city was voted the 10th best city to visit by lonely planet guides.

There's the bustling English market- a food lovers paradise, with fresh fish, farm cheeses, meats, vegetables, olives, homemade chocolates, whatever you fancy.

It is a real treat for 'foodies'. Cork has some great restaurants and Kinsale is just a 30 minute drive, commonly referred to as the gourmet capital of Ireland. www.kinsale.ie

You can kiss the Blarney Stone see www.blarneycastle.ie

Ring the famous bells of Shandon.

We also live very close to Fota a wildlife safari park. www.fotawildlife.ie. The kids will love it.

Visit Cobh located nearby, the last port visited by the'Titanic'. www.titanicexperiencecobh.ie

Visit some of the many nearby beaches for a swim or a surf. Rocky bay is a really good one for children. It's small so very easy to keep an eye on them. It's a 25 min drive from our house.

Inchydoney beach is a great one for surfers and is less than one hours drive from our house.

Or if you don't fancy going too far from the house you can walk just one minute down the road and go crab fishing at a pier. Our kids love doing this

Cork is also a great base for visiting West Cork or Kerry. Killarney is just a little over a one hour drive away. www.killarney.ie

A day trip to Dublin is very possible being just a 2.5 hour journey by car or train. www.visitdublin.com

OUR HOME

Our home overlooks the water in the lovely area of Glenbrook. Monkstown sailing club is just 1.5 kilometre away and the beautiful water side walkway from Passage west to blackrock is also within walking distance. This is a 10km walk suitable for cyclists also. We are members of Monkstown tennis club and Monkstown golf club is just 2 km away. There is a a lovely restaurant nearby called the Bosun, which has a varied menu to suit all tastes and a lovely cafe with gorgeous croissants called Napoli.

Our home is an old Georgian home suitable for families. We have 5 bedrooms. On the ground floor is a kitchen, 2 reception rooms, a utility room and toilet. On the second floor are 3 bedrooms (one double with en suite, a child's room with twin beds and another child's room with low to the ground bunk beds(safe for small children). There is also a family bathroom with a gorgeous relaxing old style slipper bath. Great for chilling out in with a good book. On the third floor there are two double bedrooms and a shower room with toilet. One of these bedrooms makes a great playroom! We have a front garden with swings and a little patio around the back. We also have a little secret garden behind the house up at a height which is accessed through one of the bedrooms. Gorgeous views of the water!

Presentatie tekst voor het gezin

We are a family of 6 with a cat. Our children love the outdoors. The two elder children play tennis. We are members in the monks town tennis club. Our eldest daughter has just started to learn sailing. The walkway nearby is frequented by us regularly.

Lifestyle

We are a pretty laid back family. We love the outdoors: walks In the forest with the kids, swimming in the sea, the kids love tennis, and the only man in the house loves golf.
As a couple, we love good food. We don't get to eat out too often (too many children!) but when we do we opt for something special. Cork has some top class restaurants and some lovely pubs in which to have a nightcap to help digest the food!
